Total Responsibility

For my first post I want share the best decision I ever made. Taking total responsibility for every aspect of my life.

I've been dieting and working out since high school, never getting more than an average body. I spent years believing I had awful genetics and no real chance of success. Everything changed when I made the change from a victim mentality to taking total responsibility for every part of my life. I went from letting life hit me in the face to actively carving my own path. It's all about perspective.

The main concept is that while not everything in your life is your fault (good or bad), it is absolutely your responsibility to deal with the consequences. At the end of the day, the only person you can trust to act in your own best interest is yourself.

Understand that what you see in the mirror is just a reflection of your daily choices compounded over time - and no one is coming to save you. Not many people are comfortable facing that fact, but there is good news.

YOUR LIFE IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Which means you have the power to change every shitty thing about it. It's time to make your own life your top priority, and accept that in order to achieve anything worthwhile - you have to make sacrifices and stand up to scrutiny from friends and family. I understand it sounds selfish on the surface, but take a minute to think.

How much better could you love those around you if you became the best version of yourself?

It’s easy to accept life as it is and just let things happen. It’s your brain’s sneaky way of letting you avoid the possibility of failure or rejection. If you never strive for anything, you can’t fail, right?

WRONG

Take some time to reflect on what would actually make YOU happy. Pretend no one would ever know about your life or be able to judge your choices, what does your dream life look like -

New friends?

Traveling every weekend?

Spending more time with family and loved ones?

Building meaningful relationships?

Getting the body of your dreams?

At the end of the day you're an autonomous adult, and can build any life you want. The scary part? If you put the work in, you'll achieve it. There are only two ways to fail - never start, or give up before you succeed.

Try it out for a day, a week, a month. Take responsibility for every single thought and action in your life. See what happens.
